Our Story
Tō Mātou Kōrero

Set against the backdrop of Hicks Bay on land owned by Tamati and Tamahae’s Whānau, Ngā Mātārae Anamata Charitable Trust offers at-risk youth a sanctuary where they can connect with their heritage and the environment. Through the Whare Tūpuna model, the trust integrates Māori cultural values into outdoor educational experiences, providing mentoring and hands-on learning. Here, youth engage directly with nature, mastering skills that foster self-reliance and environmental stewardship while developing a strong sense of community and identity. This immersive approach educates but also heals and empowers, preparing participants to navigate life with confidence and deep respect for their roots.
